Favorite Songs from RED

So, Christina and I have been talking a lot about our favorite songs from the RED album and why we love them so much. We thought we would share them with you guys and we’d love to hear your thoughts and your favorite songs.

My top 3 (in no particular order) are:

  • State of Grace
  • The Lucky One
  • 22

And here are my reasons why:

State of Grace- This song is unlike any song I have ever heard before. The music is killer but the lyrics really get to me. “Love is a ruthless game unless you play it good and right. These are the hands of fate, you’re my Achilles heel. This is the golden age of something good and right and real.” I can’t even explain how much I relate to those words and how well I understand them. They resonate with me and I am sure with anyone else who has been in love.

The Lucky One- Once again, this song is so unique. I love it so much. The music is of course spectacular and really gives it a retro vibe. I just love the story that goes along with it and how she is pointing out the not so glamorous side of fame. “…and the young things line up to take your place. Another name goes up in lights, you wonder if you’ll make it out alive…but can you tell me now you’re the lucky one? …they still tell the legend of how you disappeared, how you took the money and your dignity and got the hell out.”

22- From the second I heard the first line, “It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters and make fun of our exes,” I fell in love with this song. My friends and I love singing along and dancing to the song and it really is like an anthem for having fun with your friends. She captures the age of 22 perfectly with, “We’re happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time. It’s miserable and magical…” I also love the fact that she pokes fun at herself in it, “this place is too crowded, too many cool kids *in the background: who’s Taylor Swift anyway? Ew.*” I laughed so hard when I heard that. This song is perfect and I was so happy when she released it as a single and made a music video for it.

Here are my (Christina)’s top 3:

  • Everything Has Changed
  • All Too Well
  • I Knew You Were Trouble

And here are my reasons why:

Everything Has Changed- I was very happy to hear that Taylor and Ed would be doing a song together and as soon as I heard it I knew it was perfect. She has many lyrics in all of her songs that captivate you, but in this song there are many lyrics that I hold on to for example, "I just wanna know you better, know you better, know you better now." Sometimes I feel like these lyrics just hold me together, also, "everything has changed". The music video for this song is honestly amazing, it brought me to tears every time I watched it. I really love how the little girls is exactly like Taylor, she is so proper. One of the things in this video that makes me so happy is seeing them doing different things, when everyone else is doing something in a group they are off doing their own thing. I love how it makes you feel like a kid again and you feel like everything is all going to happen again.

All Too Well- When this song first came out on the RED album I automatically fell in love with it. I remember being at Taylor's concert for two night and hearing her sing this song. I was crying as I listened to her singing it, while she was crying as well. There are strong lyrics in this song for example, "Cause there we are again in the middle of the night. We dance around the kitchen in the refrigerator light. Down the stairs, I was there, I remember it all too well" These lyrics really speak out to me in ways I am unable to describe. I felt her pain as she sang them on stage with her piano and I always listen to this song on replay now even though it makes me cry I feel closer to Taylor.
(I, Courtney, completely agree with Christina and I am glad she chose this song, otherwise my top 3 would've become a top 5)

I Knew You Were Trouble- I am honestly and completely in love with this song. I love how the versus work up to the chorus, "Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in so shame on me now." As soon as I hear the beginning of the chorus I always get ready and excited. I really feel like laying on the cold hard ground. This song is the type of song you can dance to and have fun with. I love the music video that goes with this song!
(Courtney again, and like I said before, I am glad Christina chose this song or I would have had a very hard time picking my top 3)
